Senate confirms new IRS chief counsel

The Senate confirmed Marjorie Rollinson, a former EY tax executive, as the IRS’s first female chief counsel on Feb. 29. Rollinson was confirmed by a vote of 56-41.

Prior to becoming EY’s deputy national tax leader in 2019, Rollinson served as the tax collection agency’s associate chief counsel, where she led implementation of the international pieces of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. She also previously served as the agency’s deputy associate chief counsel. 

Rollinson joins the IRS as it races to complete guidance implementing the Inflation Reduction Act, and she could have a significant role in the IRS compliance efforts with $60 billion in new funding.
