Grant Thornton signs pledge to prioritize mental health in the workplace

CHICAGO — Grant Thornton LLP is one of more than two dozen leading companies and organizations to sign the “Pledge to Prioritize Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing in the Workplace.” Together the signatory companies represent more than six million American workers.

The pledge is a collaborative effort led by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End the National Tragedy of Suicide (PREVENTS) Executive Order Task Force.

The pledge is designed to overcome stigma associated with mental health challenges and commits signatories to providing employees with the services and resources needed to promote mental wellness. The pledge also emphasizes the important role that veteran employees can play in reducing stigma and creating resiliency in the workplace.

“Supporting mental health and wellness are more than strategic business imperatives – they are an important part of our culture at Grant Thornton,” said Brad Preber, CEO of Grant Thornton. “Organizations have a responsibility to talk about mental health in the workplace, and to collaborate on solutions. By proactively supporting colleagues’ mental health needs, we can help drive better, healthier long-term outcomes for employees, employers and society.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Department of Veterans Affairs will continue working with coalition companies and organizations to develop a best practices guide on mental health in the workplace. The guide will help empower employees of all sizes as they work to prioritize employee wellbeing.
